Very nice colleagues, but the rest is quite lacking

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

- Very nice and supportive colleagues.
- Top work equipment that allows us to get things done.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

- Pretty bad public transport connections, you basically need a car if you don't want to spend an eternety waiting for a bus and inside the bus.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

- Talk to your employees and offer them a sufficient pay rise.
- Don't treat your senior employees like they could be replaced easily by cheaper workers.
- Have more trust in your workforce and offer them proper remote options (like it is the case in any other company in this industry).
- Think about what we all achieved in the last months and years and say "Thank you" by giving us a bonus.
- Give positive feedback even for smaller achievements.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

You rarely get any positive feedback from management and the few times you get it, it seems more staged than real.

Kommunikation

We have quarterly meetings where we get the most important facts and numbers about the company. There are also "weeklys" where the most important details about the past and next week get mentioned (e.g. new important customers, new features, etc.). Sometimes though, we do not get important information or we get it too late which then leads to bad product decisions and/or more time pressure for developers.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Everyone is competent in what they are doing and in case one ever needs help, he can ask any one of their colleagues and will get a satisfying answer.

Work-Life-Balance

One can take vacation or time compensation pretty much whenever he wants and you are almost never forced to stay longer. Exceptions to this rule are before bigger releases. Negative points for not trusting the employees enough (i.e. not accepting/ignoring home office requests regularly)

Vorgesetztenverhalten

The team is not really involved in (product) decisions. Furthermore, they often expect too much and put you under pressure if you do not deliver within an arbitrary period that is often set too optimistically.

Interessante Aufgaben

After our big release recently, amount of new features to implement has dropped (as expected) and we are mostly focused on fixing what we have.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

We had a situation in the last few months, where one of our senior devs moved to another city and was promised to be able to work remotely. He got laid off only a month after that promise, together with another senior and a junior. As a bit of context, that one senior has a family with children and got fired basically out of nowhere (reasoning from management for all 3 firings was "We had to save money because of pressure from investor(s)"). So they do not care about seniors at all, they just care about getting the cheapest possible employees.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Ultrawide monitors + preformant laptops (some have new MacBooks and most get ThinkPads running Ubuntu). You also get noise-cancelling headphones. Only problems are: lound noise from the big road next to the company and a very sub-par cleaning company that leaves dust on the table all the time

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Pretty bad salary overall. No matter who you ask, everyone is gonna tell you they could earn 300-600€/month more if they would switch jobs today. We also get no shares or any kind of bonus for successful years/releases. You also get the bare minimum when it comes to social benefits. Bonus point only for the small (but existing) meal allowance of 20% per meal. Our sales employees also get Teslas and iPads, but as a Developer you don't get those benefits.

Image

They make themselves look good in the public, but treat their employees in a very different way. Examples given in other categories.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Apart from colleagues that give you tips on how to improve and what you can do better next time, there is no way to get further training. The company doesn't provide money to visit public trainings and we have no internal trainings. There is also no obvious way to climb up the career ladder in this company, you are basically stuck at your current position.
