Looked great in the outside, but leadership was lacking the will or power to tackle long standing internal issues
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
I really appreciated to learn a bit of a new culture and getting to know the people from the cambodian office, although it was a pity to have little personal contacts due to the distance.
At the end of my mandate there was coaching sessions offered and they have been really helpful to me, although the short amount of time.
Great vision of impacting people's live in Cambodia, I am sure that it helped a lot of people.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
It starts with everything looking nice and blue, but as soon as you raise internal issues or if you are perceived as asking too much questions, even if all you want is to just do your job, this is what you may get depending on which key leader you talk to: beautiful words with no real actions behind, unintelligible speechs, denial, lies, passive-agressive communication, silence, confusion, blame-shifting, no concerns on the issue but on keeping the image intact, getting shut down, discouragement for raising any further issue or for asking any question that may touch a sensible point (without knowing precisely what).
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Stop turning a blind eye or excusing the unacceptable. Have the courage to face and deal with internal and personal issues. Make your professed culture to be a reality, with the management showing the example, or at least have the honesty not to profess one thing when the reality is the opposite covered with a varnish. Stop saying beautiful words but take real actions. Be authentic rather than worrying no deeper than on your image. I am concerned that a new employee may be hired and face the same situation because the issues weren't dealt.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Overall a good work atmosphere, especially in the cambodian office. Other may have a better experience than me, but I cannot however give a better rating than that, because of the unease I often felt there in the swiss office. It seemed that while asking questions or making suggestions for improvement I often crossed a sensible line without clarity about where this line could be, and what this line was protecting.
Kommunikation
There are communication standards that are good and are a reality in the company. But there is some opacity in this company and you quickly understand that you would not get any clarity, even if you need this clarity to do your job.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
If you ask for feedback, you will get authentic feedback from most of the people. But when the person you are the most working with, doesn't give any clue about what may have been done wrong that could justify receiving (often subtle) aggressivity, this is not acceptable.
Work-Life-Balance
Good flexibility with working hours, and with taking holidays
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Unrealistic expectations were set on me.
Attempting to help solving a conflict or an issue was sometimes met with silence, denial, or lies.
I was pressured to be a square when I was a round.
Other perspectives are ignored and shut down.
Interessante Aufgaben
Not being allowed to play my role as I should makes the work much less interesting both for me, and for the people depending on my work.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
In the past, there were more congratulations for people from being faithful for a long time
Arbeitsbedingungen
Working in a co-working space is nice, with seeing more people than those in your very small office
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Fair trade software company
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Low salary because of low performance. Low performance because of opacity, confusion, impediments on properly doing your job and long-lasting internal issues. Opacity to protect what???
Image
Great vision of impacting people's live in Cambodia, I am sure that it helped a lot of people. But my experience was of a varnish on top of a different reality. More concerns for saving face than being authentic.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
Having no former experience in that position, I spend too much time not knowing what I don't know, due to lack of helpful feedback and support. When realizing that I need external help and getting this external help, I realized how much I have been prevented in my development by not being allowed to play my role. After being prevented to correctly do my job, I got blame for project failures, and when contesting the blame, got blatant irrealistic expectations that I should have met, then heard the lie that such expectations were never set on me.
There was simply no future for me there.
