The start-up culture has reached its limits
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Still a good work atmosphere between colleagues, but that is a sinking ship.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
BBG doesn't understand how much performance it can leverage out of its people, if it wants to.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Grow up! People do want to grow with you. It looks as though you have forgotten that if you take care of your people, they will take care of your business.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
There used to be a vibrant atmosphere. But nowadays, the company is bleeding people and the good atmosphere is leaving with them.
On a more positive note: the atmosphere hasn't turned bad yet, it's just absent at the moment.
Kommunikation
When the leadership wants to talk about something, the communication is good in my view.
But as an employee, I find the communication about critical aspects dissatisfactory :
- salary
- employee development : comminication is about the technichal aspects rather than the vision in my view
- employee retention
When there is a will, there is a way and vice versa.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Same as atmosphere: used to be vibrant, but is being worsened by people quitting.
Work-Life-Balance
I myself have managed to maintain a healthy one, also thanks to my manager.
But when I observe others: heavy workload and people leaving give me the impression of a systemic issue.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
I have been lucky with my manager. But it's not the case for everybody. That depends on the manager.
Interessante Aufgaben
Very interesting in the beginning, but they become repetitve after a while (also related to no development/promotion).
And that is provided your tools work, because technical solutions take too long to be implemented - frustrating.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Overall okay, you do have everything you need to work.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
The products, the business model and even the motto "make good design more accessible" follow the logic of consumerism at the cost of environment and potentially social conscience.
While I understand that the company has been founded before climate change was generally know as an urgent topic, and a business model is very diffcult to change, some behaviours could be changed right now. For example: recruiting people not based in Berlin and have them fly in and out weekly
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Being loyal will cost you.
Hires are at market rate, but one's salary will shrink over time compared to market value and cost of living. Unfairness between new and old team members, because new team members are hired at current market rate.
The salary review process implemented in 2023 is in my view amateur at best, not worthy of a unicorn with 600+ employees.
- no link with your performance review: both happen at separated times. Objective (non-)fullfillment is not objectively taken into account.
- it is not a meeting with the employee himself. It is a recommendation by the employee's manager to the higher hierarchy, which may be followed or not. It is arbitrary at best.
- All increases have been capped at 3% in 2023 - after two years of double digits inflation. It's a political action to say "there was a salary review" rather than actually perform one.
- The communication beforehand about this new process has been amateur at best. All info above discovered afterhand, not beforehand.
- I didn't see any communication about increases in 2024, leaving the impression there will not be any.
