Cluno gives away its potential: A story about maneuvering a corporate anchor through uncertain times
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Current working mood is marked by uncertainty. Nobody knows where Cluno as a company stands and what this actually means for the future. People worry about their job security. This causes competitions between departments in a negative way instead of supporting each other for the better cause.
In some Kununu reviews Cluno was described as a corporate instead of a startup. I fully agree with that. Politics is indispensable for cross-departmental tasks which obviously is not conducive for the team spirit in a startup.
Kommunikation
It´s basically top-down and communication towards employee is very superficial. The company standup is rather a ego show than a platform for substantial and informational updates. The management is sharing almost only success stories to proof their right to exist.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
This is all about at Cluno. Many colleagues support each other. If management is involved, things are getting more complicated as they could be due to political conflicts. Unfortunately, this is why sometimes a false appearance is created. I didn´t hear anything about that there are problems within the teams or between them.
Work-Life-Balance
We have trust-based working hours, but I'm not really flexible in my own time management. The flexibility relates more to overtime and you feel like you're in a corset of a nine-to-six-job. Starting later and working longer or starting earlier and finishing earlier is very rare and, in my perception at least, not welcomed.
In addition, the ratio of the workload does not fit. While some colleagues "collect" a lot of overtime, others shutdown their laptops at 6 p.m. or enjoy their after-work beer on the roof terrace at 4 p.m. on Fridays.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Management philosophy is characterized by mirco-management. There is nothing to complain about your performance if you do your assigned to-dos without questioning or challenging them and I personally miss a honest kind of appreciation.
Political infightings at the management level, which are played out on the backs of the teams, is due to the fact that the hierarchical structure has not been carefully thought through. Decisions are either strictly based on bare numbers or personal interests by management or leadership. And of course, everything has high priority.
Interessante Aufgaben
Tasks given by management or troubleshooting for the most part. The initial idea of contributing ideas to improve the product as an employee doen´t exist. You are not part of developing a strategy but simply execute tasks. Progress is barely discernible and implementations take forever. It could be much more exciting if we would have a autonomous framework in our responsible areas and decisions-making.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
No problems as far as I know. But this isn´t something I consider as outstanding. This is a precondition in a professional environment.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Nice looking office with good transport connections. Equipment is pretty basic. You can choose between Mac or Windows. No business mobile. Own workplace in open plan office. Home office regulations have been loosened during corona pandemic but I guess this won´t be a permanent situation.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
No existing or planned projects.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Salary is ok, could be better or worse. Social benefits such as capital-forming benefits are completely absent. Salary increases were recently canceled even though they were initially promised for appropriate performances, which were demonstrably delivered.
Image
Cluno sells itself very well to the outside world but on various well-known review platforms the individual facets come to light.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
Lately, the leadership has been explaining that Cluno doesn´t want to have a hipster startup culture with yoga courses or fresh fruits but Cluno defines itself more about personal growth and professional development. I am not quite sure if we have the right conditions for that at all and I have given up asking for training courses. In direct conversations you will be told that there is currently no perspective on the next stage of your professional career at Cluno. One should come to terms with this.
