A Snapshot of Your Day
HVDC is a backbone technology for a sustainable future, it utilizes converters to efficiently transmit power from large offshore wind parks to the onshore electrical grid. We are looking for people who are excited to work in HVDC technology, to become part of our team and make a real difference to the global energy transition.
As a controls engineer in an HVDC project, you will engage in various tasks throughout the project. Starting with the design specification and interface parametrization, you will implement and verify control logic in MATLAB/SIMULINK based on customer requirements. You will also load the compiled control software onto the target hardware and perform hardware-in-the-loop tests to ensure final performance. Your primary responsibility will be higher-level controls of the HVDC system, with beneficial knowledge of converter-level controls.
This role offers the chance to work on diverse aspects of HVDC system development. You will collaborate with a project team, together with control engineers and specialists on ther systems like human-machine interface, switchyard control, and real-time simulation. Additionally, you will participate in customer discussions and contribute to shaping the new electrical grid for a sustainable future.
How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Design and implement open- and closed-loop control systems for HVDC Converter Systems
  • Implementation of control software in MATLAB/SIMULINK as well as verification using software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments
  • Contribute to the clarification of technical requirements within project teams as well as with customers
  • Work with a close-knit team on a successful project development

What You Bring
  • University degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering or similar, preferably at least two years of professional experience
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/SIMULINK, including modeling and verification
  • Experience with developing controls systems, ideally in a power systems context
  • Eagerness to work in a team, to learn, and to contribute to the energy transition
  • Knowledge of MMC converter technology as well as open- and closed-loop controls, experience in the configuration of automation systems is an advantage
  • Strong English language skills, German language skills are an advantage
