„Research for a life without cancer“ is our mission at the German Cancer Research Center. We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and look for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Every contribution counts – whether in research, administration or infrastructure. This is what makes our daily work so meaningful and exciting.
Are you passionate about translating complex molecular data into actionable insights that can shape the future of cancer therapy? Then join our interdisciplinary and international team of the cutting-edge Molecular Precision Oncology Program at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).
We are seeking for the next possible date a dynamic and ambitious candidate for a Postdoctoral Position in Translational Bioinformatics.
Reference number: 2024-0339
The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) is a long-term cooperation between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), excellent partners in university medicine and other research institutions at six locations in Germany ("One NCT"). The goal of the NCT is to bring promising results from cancer research into clinical application quickly and safely. This approach is intended to provide cancer patients with nationwide access to innovative treatment options.
One of the six NCT sites is the NCT Heidelberg, which is a collaboration between the DKFZ, Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), Heidelberg University and Thoraxklinik Heidelberg.
Working with us gives you the opportunity to collaborate with top-tier researchers and clinicians from both dry and wet labs at DKFZ and NCT. It gives you the chance to contribute to shaping the emerging profession of translational bioinformatics and develop your own research projects in a supportive, innovative environment. We value initiative and creative problem-solving and provide a dynamic research setting where your work directly impacts patient care and clinical outcomes.
Your Tasks
As part of our collaborative group of bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, and physicians, you will analyze high-dimensional molecular data (whole-genome, transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome) from cancer patients. Your work will provide critical interpretations that guide personalized therapy recommendations discussed in weekly molecular tumor boards. In addition, you will evaluate molecular biomarkers to support patient inclusion in clinical trials, helping to push the boundaries of precision oncology.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze and interpret complex molecular datasets to identify clinically actionable changes
- Participate in molecular tumor boards, providing data-driven insights to support personalized treatment plans
- Assess molecular biomarkers for inclusion in controlled clinical trials
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of an ISO 15189-accredited quality management system
- Collaborate with leading scientists to develop innovative workflows and pipelines for high-dimensional data analysis
Your Profile
- You're a skilled bioinformatician experienced in analyzing next-generation sequencing data, with a focus on clinical applications and interpretation of actionable mutations.
- Master's degree and PhD in bioinformatics or comparable
- A background in cancer biology and treatment is a plus.
- Proficiency in English is a must.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and make a meaningful difference in cancer research, we encourage you to apply. Join us in driving forward personalized oncology treatments!
