Looking to jumpstart your career in Materials & Welding? We are seeking a recent graduate from the 2024/2025 cohort to join our Materials & Welding team in Hamburg, Germany, starting in 2025!

We are currently seeking a graduate to join our Materials & Welding team in Germany. You'll be joining a dedicated group whose members are motivated and skilled, committed to providing consistent, high-quality services to support our customers.

Materials & Welding is a section within the Approval Centre Europe of Maritime Ship Classification. This centre includes six production departments spread across Gdynia, Poland; Hamburg, Germany; and Oslo (Høvik), Norway. The main service offered involves the approval, verification, and certification of various maritime assets in accordance with our regulations along with the development and upkeep of these regulations.

Working at the Approval Centre Europe, you operate in a professional, skilled, and service-focused setting with opportunities to develop your skills and expertise and connect with colleagues across different sites.

Section/Task description

We are recruiting in the section Materials & Welding. The section comprises 18 skilled engineers based in Høvik, Gdynia, and Hamburg, handling material and welding issues, approvals, rule development, and technical support globally. This typically covers metallic materials, various welding techniques (including additive manufacturing), and non-metallic materials used in the shipping industry.

The duties of an approval engineer in the section generally include, but are not limited to:

  • Approval of manufacturers for metallic materials
  • Approval of welding workshops
  • Approval of welding consumables and non-metallic materials
  • Verification of essential welding procedures
  • Providing technical support to our global surveyor network and customers
  • Attending expert network meetings globally for Materials & Welding
  • Updating and maintaining DNV rules and instructions for Materials & Welding in line with market trends

For this graduate program, DNV is looking for graduates who are ready to start their journey with us in August 2025.

About you

  • Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Materials Science
  • Have expertise in metallic materials and welding methods

  • Have a systematic and well-structured working style, supported by strong administrative skills
  • Are service-oriented, proactive, solution-focused, and flexible
  • Uphold strong personal integrity
  • Have good communication and presentation skills in English, knowledge of German language will be highly preferred
