A company struggling in dire survival mode since a change in management
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
The office in Vienna
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
No empathy. Cold American corporation.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Scale down. People matter. Focus on one thing at a time. Offer best hardware. Ensure everyone (no matter what their current salary is) who worked well gets a good raise at the end of the year, and not a 150,- € bonus.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
What used to be a great company which felt like a real family changed rapidly to the worse since it’s acquisition by an investment fund. And became a total nightmare once the founder was ousted out of the company and a new CTO appointed. The work atmosphere in the dev department has since then deteriorated beyond any repair. Pretty much all the “A” developers and best in the field core colleagues left over the past couple of years. Work is driven mainly by fear. Not a place anyone really enjoys being at.
Kommunikation
Too many goals set at the same time. Everything categorized as being very important. Days occupied by dozens of meetings leaving literally no space for quality work-time. Hard to follow.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Most colleagues in the IT department are helping each other and stick together. The team is in fact huge and spread over many locations, so it’s not really personal.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
A lot of unrealistic goals are pushed onto the developers and the teams they are in. There are often many deadlines set for dozens of aims with literally no time given to attend to these, instead one spends good 20-25 hours per week in meetings, or working on some stuff for other departments. Then the teams are often criticized in front of the whole company by the CTO. It really burned the hell out of a lot of great colleagues and they left the company.
Interessante Aufgaben
Little space for any creativity
Gleichberechtigung
Although there are notably more guys in the dev department than girls, I’ve never really witnessed any inequality.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
There are not that many older colleagues, yet they seems to be all treated well
Arbeitsbedingungen
Hardware is far from being top of the line, yet it’s also not the worst. There is little choice in what kind of hardware you get to work on, it’s very mediocre what is provided. Personal hardware is not allowed. The office is nice and spacious. Yet it’s mostly open space.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
You will be literally fighting for a 3% yearly raise. No matter your performance, if your salary is around the median there is little hope for any notable compensation changes over many many years.
Image
In the dev department there is fear and many people are not talking good about the company.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
It is expected that one educates himself/herself in their free time mostly at their own expense, or via some udemy course. It’s sad actually. Before the changes in top management a lot of resources were in fact invested in people and their Know-how. Careers are on one hand clearly outlined, yet in most cases people don’t want to follow these due to a) little/no change in salary yet huge change in expectations b) no real job focus, one is expected to be able to do everything at once
