Quantity over quality
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
If you get the benefits they are awesome.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
This is mostly a summary of the above points.
- Horrendous communication.
- Ineffective meetings
- The very obvious lack of planning
- Not listening to your employees
- Constantly changes in the process, which make the lack of planning a lot worse
To make things worse you then get constantly told, that you are too slow.
This kind of feedback is incredibly demotivating for employees.
If you want to discourage your employees, this is the best way to do so.
It's well-known that motivated employees tend to be more productive, yet it appears that this perspective isn't being acknowledged by management.
We had a lot of meetings with management the last few months and nothing changed since then. Talking alone is not enough. If your employees come to you, telling you why they are not happy, you need to listen and act upon it.
Not acting after such meetings, there is a high possibility that employees start to leave and currently this company especially the Development Team is a ticking time bomb.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Now would be the time to start listening to your employees. A successful business can only grow with their employees.
- Start communicating openly with the employees.
- Start trusting your employees, you hired them for a reason
- Stop the constant micromanagement. Do not constantly interfere in the day to day work with your experts. Lead the way instead of controlling every detail to the last step.
- Management needs to get training asap.
- Make sure you are doing what your job description says, especially higher positions that are not involved in the day to day business.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Since November 2023, there has been a noticeable decline in morale. You can sense the atmosphere deteriorating with each larger meeting.
Kommunikation
Communication is at an all-time low. Many decisions are made behind the scenes. While they talk about transparency, their actions often contradict this claim.
Management frequently assumes that "It's documented in Confluence" is sufficient. However, complex topics like the collective agreement require much more thorough explanation.
Additionally, changes in Confluence are not communicated, forcing individuals to constantly scan for updates themselves.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
The only reason people are still here is because colleagues support each other at every level.
Work-Life-Balance
Work-life balance would be great, but there's a catch. If you are constantly told that you are slow, the mood drops even further.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Micromanagement is pervasive. If you are hired as an expert in your field, don't expect your opinion to be valued. Management calls the shots, despite many colleagues warning about future outcomes and problems. This often leads to very unpleasant situations, and employees are the ones who have to fix the issues, even though they had already warned management many times beforehand.
Interessante Aufgaben
What is most painful is that the topics and field of work are genuinely interesting, and the team could achieve great things together. However, we are often overruled by management, which causes us to lose a lot of time. This, in turn, leads to the recurring issue of being asked, "Why are you slow?"
Gleichberechtigung
The development team is male-dominated, with only one female employee remaining since three were fired in November.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
The workplace fosters a very open culture where everyone is treated with the respect they deserve.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Equipment is good and up to date. HQ in Salzburg is good too.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
While management frequently travels by plane and car, employees are encouraged to utilize train travel with the benefit "Klimaticket". However, there have been instances where the benefit has been unexpectedly revoked without prior notice, particularly for employees who haven't been regularly present at the headquarters. This situation contrasts with the benefit being initially praised.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
While the company has the potential to excel with consistent benefits, the current situation leaves something to be desired. Despite promises of collective agreement raises for all, it appears that there has been a discrepancy between expectations and reality. Clarity and follow-through on commitments are essential for fostering a positive work environment, and addressing this issue transparently could greatly enhance employee satisfaction and trust in the company's leadership.
Image
Marketing is effectively projecting a positive image externally, but internally, particularly within the Dev-Community, there's a different narrative.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
The issue lies less in the absence of education and more in the challenge of integrating newly acquired knowledge into current tasks. As the title suggests, there's an emphasis on quantity over quality.
The code quality clearly reflects the company's roots in an agency environment. Instead of focusing on quality, since it is a product and not a project, the main goal is output, regardless of the consequences.
In recent months, navigating the hiring process has posed challenges in terms of career advancement, particularly as internal promotions seem discouraged. The term "nepotism" may even come to mind, reflecting the frustrations experienced.
