Good company to get first experience, bad to grow your career
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Yearly Mallorca and Ski trip
3 company party a year (Sommerfest, company anniversary, Christmas)
4-day workweek
Flexibility to manage your own time, as long as you get things done (eg: appointments in the middle of the work day are no problem)
Freedom in technical decision
Friendly and approachable colleagues
Modern office space
Free drinks and snacks at the office (and not just a sad fruit basket like most companies)
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Salary. Lack of incentives to promote employee loyalty and retention.
People sometimes getting fired on the spot with no explanation.
Clear lack of seniority in the teams, which can hinder your capacity to learn from your peers.
Lack of truly long-term vision in IT, and a mix of corporate and start-up mindset which sometimes does not work well together (transition phase for the company due to the growth).
Sometimes decisions/new features are pushed from high management onto teams without much discussion, which can lead to a lack of motivation if you do not see/understand the "why".
Forced to work on a laptop with German keyboard layout in an international company. Really?
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Even though the management argue against it, being in Linz is not an advantage in the Austrian IT market, especially when trying to attract internationals. Compensation needs to be higher and reflect market standard in order to be competitive.
Being in the Sales KV as an IT worker is also less than ideal, and this is taken advantage of by the management to give smaller (or sometimes non-existent) raises. But lots of internationals don't realise this as it's a very Austrian-specific system.
All the C-level management is Austrian and it sometimes shows in some decisions. They present the company as international and diverse, but the management isn't. Bringing new mindsets with fresh ideas wouldn’t hurt.
Kommunikation
The company claims to be transparent but only for certain topics. As soon as it gets more sensitive, like salary, transparency is gone and you will hear „this is how it is“
Kollegenzusammenhalt
The teams and colleagues is probably the strongest point of Tractive. Everybody is here for each other and you can count on your
colleagues.
Work-Life-Balance
The 4-day workweek is amazing and nobody expects you to do overtime. You also have flexitime that allows you to get up to 6 additional days off with your overtime.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Managers is up to your luck. You might get a good one, you might get a micro-manager, you might get someone that got here by luck without the right competences. Depends on the team.
Gleichberechtigung
Not every team is treated the same way. If you’re easily replaceable they will make sure you know it and exploit it (for example customer support).
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
Not many older colleagues which also means a clear lack of seniority.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Hardware is good (choice between Mac and Windows - unfortunately no Linux). Unfortunately was forced to work with a German keyboard layout in an international company that has English as its main language.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Probably the worst part about Tractive is the pay which to be fair is partially offset by the 4 day workweek if you calculate your hourly rate.
Salaries are also not equal at the same role and seniority, your negotiation skills and overall situation will have an impact on your compensation (sadly true in many companies).
Other benefits are okay but pretty standard for the industry.
No bonus, equity plan, extra PTO based on seniority, ect. - basically nothing of the usual loyalty-based incentives
Karriere/Weiterbildung
No formal framework to grow in seniority/title. It can sometimes feel like things won't change a few years down the line in your personal career because there is no official process.
You are supposed to have time reserved for "learning" but in reality you don't get the time to truly use it and even though workshop are advertised in the job offers, they barely happen.
On the bright side you do get the time to learn new technologies if the team decides to use it to solve a new problem. But again up to you to learn it on your own.
