Great mission, terrible leadership
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Board members and the senior leadership team should not only be interested in animal welfare, but also have experience and knowledge about the topics they are working on. Of course, this does not apply to everyone, but it is very difficult to have productive discussions if the experts on the topics are lower down the hierarchy and they are not even listened to by the decision-makers
Arbeitsatmosphäre
A lot of inter-departmental issues that are not properly resolved because of power imbalances and infighting within the senior leadership team and the board. The leadership does not promote fairness, trust or open communication and is a terrible role model when it comes to micromanaging and problem-solving. Some team leaders are great at shielding their team from such problems, so I guess if you're in their team, you are lucky and the working environment can be good.
Kommunikation
Failure to communicate important decisions and changes in a timely manner. The board communicates THAT changes are coming but takes a long time to communicate WHAT kind of changes are coming
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Within my department, the working atmosphere has been professional and friendly. However, there are some inter-departmental conflicts and issues that are not being properly managed and this creates an atmosphere of mistrust and frustration
Vorgesetztenverhalten
I left the organisation because I was very dissatisfied with a lot of things, but mostly with the behaviour of the board and some directors. I still don't understand why they think it's a good idea to run a non-profit like a business, to ignore critical opinions and to create an atmosphere of insecurity and frustration all the while presenting themselves as modern leaders when in fact they are the opposite.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
I heard thatthey have made some improvements recently, but when I worked there, the salaries were quite intransparent. People with very similar profiles and job descriptions had gaps between their salaries. To make matters worse, you don't just have to negotiate your salary with your line manager, but ultimately, it goes to HR and sometimes even the board who, most of the time, don't know you and have no idea whether you deserve a raise based on your performance.
The most frustrating part for me was leaving my job, accompanying the hiring process for my replacement and realising that they will be getting a higher starting salary than I did after working there for some years.
However, the benefits offered by the organisation are good, especially compared to other non-profits in Vienna!
