IOM Germany –a horrible place.
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
I worked in the AVRR department. I was happy and proud to be part of the IOM. Unfortunately I soon learned that there is nothing humane about this humanitarian organisation.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
The best are being mobbed out and people quit on a regular basis.
Instead of promoting their loyal hard working employees, they hire external candidates who usually quit after a few months. Or ‘give’ the position to unqualified family members or friends.
Speaking of friends: though internships were unpaid, when it comes to people of interest this rule seems to be flexible. These privileged interns also get paid equally as the rest of the staff.
There is a constant atmosphere of fear and passive aggressiveness in the office. Many previous employees needed long psychological treatment after working there. You also cannot talk to the unqualified HR team, who keep no confidentiality and immediately report in the form of gossip to the related people. As a result- employers sit frustrated and sobbing behind their desks.
Weird relationships between some co workers, people getting fired while on Sick Leave, managers with 0 ability to manage, endless racist comments, foreign employees who are on the verge of deportation because HR fails to provide them with the necessary papers on time and the list goes on and on…
No anonym complaint mechanism. thats why senior managers are getting away with their behaviour.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
This mission is rotten from the bottom.
Change all senior managers immediately. Break this collusion. Hire young good staff, create a complaint mechanism, promote internal staff instead of promoting your own children and people of interest. Create supervision on staff.
IOM headquarters- check this Mission carefully. Interview the right staff members anonymously and you will find much more.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
There is a constant atmosphere of fear and passive aggressiveness in the office. Many previous (and current) employees needed long psychiatric treatment after working there. You also cannot talk to the unqualified HR team, who keep no confidentiality and immediately report in the form of gossip to the related people. As a result- employers sit frustrated, frightened and sobbing behind their desks.
Kommunikation
zero communication. Zero transparency. Secret working groups. Endless talks behind your back.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
It is as if they are all busy with gossiping and making each others lives miserable.
Work-Life-Balance
This place takes any bit of energy from you. Which leaves you with frustration you always carry with you. So what life balance?
Vorgesetztenverhalten
The best are being mobbed out and people quit on a regular basis. Only the ones who are cooperating with the toxic management are being rewarded.
Chief of Mission know exactly what is going on (!) but unfortunately does nothing to protect her employees.
Senior management that doesnt care about the frustration of employees.
Whenever someone wants to raise a new idea he or she immediately gets shut down.
Gleichberechtigung
Female dominated.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
Most of the staff is young and easy to replace.
Image
nothing humane about this humanitarian organisation.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
If you are there to actually work, learn and suggest new ideas to facilitate processes, you will soon be targeted as the next victim (and boy these women love new and fresh targets). So if you have 1 ounce of intelligence, you probably wont get far.
