Unfortunately, my experience at Kiddieland was very disappointing. The work environment was extremely challenging, largely due to the lack of qualified staff and the poor management practices. A significant portion of the staff consisted of trainees or Praktikanten, many of whom were not adequately trained and lacked proper guidance. Despite being counted as full staff members, they were not equipped to perform their duties, which left many gaps in care and support for the children.
The management was the most problematic aspect of my time there. One of the bosses promised me a bonus upon hiring but later refused to discuss it when I brought it up. My advice: always get everything in writing when dealing with management, as they can’t be trusted to follow through on promises. One of the bosses created a toxic atmosphere, frequently belittling staff and even speaking negatively about the other manager in front of the team. This undermined morale and professionalism, making the workplace feel uncomfortable and untrusting.
While the focus seemed to be on creating a polished image for the parents, with an emphasis on cleanliness and expensive toys, the actual care for the children and quality of staff was overlooked. There was a clear disconnect between what was promised during recruitment and the reality of working there.
The workload was demanding, with unrealistic expectations placed on staff without sufficient support or preparation time. I was frequently asked to attend meetings without notice, expected to "brainstorm" on important issues with no time to prepare, and then criticized when I couldn't provide immediate solutions. Furthermore, when I called in sick, management would contact me repeatedly, even requesting that I come in to perform office work, despite having made it clear that I was unwell and needed time to recover.
Additionally, there is a lack of respect for personal boundaries. One boss even criticized me for setting boundaries around sick leave, calling it unprofessional. The staff is underpaid and there are significant salary discrepancies, even when employees have the same qualifications. Management also seems indifferent to environmental concerns, with excessive plastic and waste throughout the institution, which is at odds with the values of caring for children.
You also have to pay for the food and are obligated to eat together with the children. I find, if they make it obligatory, they shouldnt charge their staff.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend working at Kiddieland. The environment is toxic, management is unprofessional, and the focus is more on appearance and profits than on the children’s well-being and the development of staff. If you are looking for a place that genuinely cares about its staff and the children, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
hire more professional staff and don´t fill up on underpaid and untrained staff just for the numbers, you are not doing anyone a favour (except your bank account)- especially not for the kids.
toxic, boss is belitteling her staff in front of otehr staff members, therefore creating a hostil environment
i was shocked by the amount of plastic toys and things they have (and don´t need)- poor focus on environmental issues
they are in need of regular training for all staff and management
due to the toxic envirnomnet, i felt like i couldt trust anyone in this company
Poor, they call for spontaneous meetings, expecting immidiate solutions
huge gaps in wages amongst staff
