Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Robust product, maybe overengineered in some places. The stress is within limits. Not the newest tech-stack but also not (yet) the oldest.
Good if, as a programmer, you like to implement complex requirements.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
* Managers severly lack leadership and people skills.
* As an employee you can not be your authentic self. Employees are being pressured into their special company culture. If you do not fit the "treefin" culture you are being segregated and removed from the team and the company.
* The W&W parent company is increasingly gaining influence and dictates the rules (e. g. Homeoffice).
* Product managers are often not really interested in banking and finance or the fintech industry as a whole.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
* Coach managers in people skills and leadership. Be open towards dissenting views and opinions, be more dialogue oriented and tolerant.
* Treat employees with respect and appreciation.
* Hire product owners who are really interested in the fintech industry.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
I find the overall working atmosphere to be rigid and overly serious, characterised by a veritable process fetishism without any room to breathe. There are constant conflicts and quarrels between treefin and the W&W parent company which you can also feel during meetings.
The only bright spots are some of the colleagues.
Kommunikation
There are official meetings in which the employees are informed about the company. Besides that, there is a lot of gossip due to lack of transparency.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Mostly professional, friendly & helpful. Of course, as everywhere, there are one or two people you simply can't get along with.
Work-Life-Balance
That is the positive aspect of the bureaucracy at this company: overtime is the exception. Approved overtime that exceeds a certain limit is paid for in cash or you can take the time off.
I deduct one star because you only get 28 days of vacation.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
I feel afraid of my superiors and managers. The smallest process deviations cost you dearly. I am constantly micromanaged and distrusted, even to the point of unfounded insinuations.
I perceive the management style of my superiors as strictly hierarchical, often despotic without room for debate or constructive discussion ("As a manager I don't have to prove or anything!"). The management style was described to me using an analogy involving apes, bananas and a water hose (no kidding!).
Don't let yourself be blinded there are many wolves in sheep's clothing here.
Interessante Aufgaben
Not a place for you if you want to save the world or develop anything socially relevant.
At the moment, there is a large migration going on that will take several years, as well as refactoring/removing technical debt in the existing app.
There is not enough development of new features.
Gleichberechtigung
I didn't notice anything to the contrary.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
The team consists of predominantly young people with a few experiences old-timers here and there whose experience is appreciated, as far as I can tell.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Pros:
* Fairly recent hardware, choose between Mac & Win.
* Latest video conferencing equipment in the office.
* Home office is possible without restrictions, but is currently on the back burner in favour of a hybrid working model (best to have the option written into the employment contract).
* Outside of the core working hours you are mostly free to arrange your work-hours.
Cons:
* No allowance for home office setup.
* Only 28 days of vacation.
* The office is a loud, open space office and unbearably hot in summer.
* Not enough desks in the office for all staff, meaning you always have to look for a place and sit at a different desk every day.
* Sysadmins unfortunately not very cooperative and your typical nay-sayer.
* The W&W parent company uses a different technical setup which often leads to incompatibilities.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Some approaches exist, such as waste separation and an environmentally friendly soda water dispenser. On the other hand, refrigerators are run mostly empty, there is no fair trade coffee and the free drinks are produced by the controversial Nestlé/Coca-Cola company instead of opting for a local alternative.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Fixed salary + variable bonus based on targets and company performance. Bonuses are paid annually in April following next year.
The fixed salary is below market value so good negotiation skills are recommended.
Image
Well, it is the finance and insurance industry, so what do you expect? They strive to be hip and modern, but are overshadowed by the W&W parent company, which is more associated with stability, a certain conservative attitude to change and reliance on "tried and tested" solutions ("A rock amidst the turbulent sea.")
Karriere/Weiterbildung
There is no official scheme, budget or a sort of "educational leave". You are at your manager's grace a lot.
