A quick look at reviews here and on other websites will make it clear how multiple people had a very similar experience during the interview process for the SEO Manager role: a very good one when it came to the first HR screening and chat, with a nice and professional HR rep, and then a complete disaster when it came to the following step with the hiring manager. Sadly, his behavior during the whole interview was completely hostile, defensive and unsettling, while his questions were very confused and gave absolutely zero hint about his knowledge of the job or of the industry. He seemed to have a fixed set of questions he was asking, but at the same time he appeared clueless regarding which kind of answer was needed. I stumbled across this company and this position twice after my first application, and in both cases it had been advertised by external recruitment agencies which, quite clearly, had been called in due to the extreme incompetency of this individual.
The fact that I had applied in July, and that this position is still waiting to be filled more than 5 months later (in a moment where the number of skilled people looking for jobs is at an all-time high), should speak volume about the whole situation. I feel bad for the HR employee, who was extremely nice, and I hope that at the same time something will be done regarding that hiring manager, who doesn't really seem up for his role at all.
The interview that I had with HR was very pleasant. She was familiar with my cv, knew the challenges of the position and asked probing questions while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere. The second interview however was the complete opposite. The interviewer didn't really seem to have interest in my actual experience but instead asked me a lot of questions like "What's a canonical?". I wonder what the value of that is if. I didn't get to know him, but the impression that I got in the interview was not positive at all. The tone was not respectful or on eyelevel. I won't continue with the process.
