Slander by self-proclaimed research experts who just want to put their name on any research results.
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Flexible working hours at the office
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
You need all extra hours you can make for no compensation.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
A small group of shares a friendly and engaging work atmosphere. Everyone else is stuck with one or another senior who has little understanding of the scientific process, writes self-citing articles, and doesn't have a good grasp of basic methodology (experiments, statistics) These people deride all approaches, force overtime on useless paperwork, and feel the need to make progress impossible. I have seen many excellent researchers who left disappointed because of this. These people are backed by a management with a similar mindset.
Kommunikation
Goals are not clearly communicated. It requires multiple iterations to understand what is desired.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
I have already responded. It is very dependent on the group. In the general case, there is a level of falsehood, and colleagues that would flip their opinion immediately if they feel they not on the favor of a senior.
Work-Life-Balance
A lot personal effort is required outside working hours. Particularly for repetitive tasks that don't contribute to the end result.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
A lot of people will rather leave than offer feedback. Surveys are manipulated to show that things are going great.
Interessante Aufgaben
Project content is interesting sometimes. It quickly becomes tedious once it is reduced to a chain of bureaucratic tasks. It is difficult to push really interesting ambitious concepts. They will be questioned and reduced to those that the project lead feels confident in taking.
Gleichberechtigung
Everyone is treated equally bad.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
I cannot comment. It does not seem to be good. There are many extra activities that people with family have trouble keeping up with. It is clearly a place for young and naive, but hardworking good researchers.
Arbeitsbedingungen
It depends on the project. Some resources are coveted and difficult to get, like having access to a GPU for machine learning. Normal office areas and infrastructure are otherwise ok.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Salary structure is unclear. Every team has a different structure for people with same responsibilities. It makes it really difficult to know if remuneration is fair. It makes even more difficult to manage a team fairly.
Image
From a managerial perspective, it is an endless challenge. As said above, I have seen many excellent researchers leave disappointed. Those who are trying hard to make a good impact in the international scientific community rarely receive recognition. Because, the people in management do not really understand the amount of effort that quality requires.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
Only if you are willing to endure a great deal of slander.
