I recently participated in the recruitment process for a Senior E-Commerce Manager role and, unfortunately, found the experience disappointing due to a lack of professionalism and transparency.
After successfully completing the first interview, the second-round interview was scheduled but canceled at the last minute due to "unforeseen circumstances." This was particularly frustrating, as it had already been rescheduled from the previous week, suggesting internal coordination challenges.
If there was uncertainty about the role’s availability, it would have been more transparent to inform candidates earlier rather than progressing through multiple rounds. The lack of clear communication and consideration for candidates' time left a negative impression of the hiring process.
Suggestions for Improvement:
- Clear Communication: If a position’s availability is uncertain, inform candidates in advance.
- Respect for Candidates’ Time: Last-minute cancellations - especially after rescheduling, should be avoided to acknowledge the effort candidates put into preparation.
- Better Internal Alignment: Ensure hiring needs are confirmed before engaging candidates in interviews.
Candidates invest significant time and effort in the process, and companies should reflect the same level of professionalism they expect from applicants. Improving transparency and internal coordination could enhance the candidate experience.
The vacancy remains listed online, which raises questions about the role’s current status.
The application process was very straightforward and clear with defined stages and clear timeline. All the participants of the interviews were professional and friendly. I really appreciated their honesty and transparency. However, I believe there might be an improvement in terms of communication. Sometimes you send an email and then wait for 2-3 days for an answer and start wondering if colleagues received it at all. Having a small "got it, will come back later" would make it nicer. But this is a minor thing, all the other elements were good.
Interviews at the beginning were pretty cool, no pressure, nice atmosphere. Nice people. I also liked the interview with the department. The questions were sometimes tricky, but there was no pressure if it wasn't right. As I had read a lot about the company, I was very happy when I got to the final stage cause the experience so far was great.
But the last interview was with the founder himself, which I found quite odd that he does interviews. The interview with him was really awkward and I did not understand what he really wanted from me. He didn't show any interest in me as a person, he didn't even look into the camera. I asked him two questions, but he just ignored them. The interview lasted only a few minutes and the questions were not specific, I did not understand what I was doing (or what he was doing). Maybe he was doing the interview for the first time, I don't know, it felt a bit like that. In the end I decided not to take the job because it just didn't feel right. Seems like the main guy micromanages a lot. Also the process took too long...The Chief seems to need some training in how to conduct interviews, or he should just leave it to the people who know how to do it
So verdient kununu Geld.
