-
- Get familiar with the German Working Law and stope the hire and fire mentality to make it for people attractive to stay
- Stop using templates for working contracts that are not attractive for your employees to stay
- Start acknowledge the achievements of your employees
- Start closing the social gap between the HQs and foreign location employees to make them not feel just as working bees
International working environment. Had alot of contact with the HQs in France and french speaking part of Canada, which was cool. However you feel a certain personal distance from the HQs to the location in Germany. The task is to acquire new projects and get as many projects done as possible. Once a project is finished you move right on to the next one without really being acknowledged for it. If you're not performing well the is a high chance of being fired (whether it's a high rated or low rated position).
Innovative supplier for mobile scanners. Customers are sometimes annoyed by the numerous amount of newsletters they receive.
Working hours were on mutual trust. Hence you had to organize your time based in the project you were currently working for. However taking flex time off was difficult due to the ongoing project hunt. If you had a day off it could happen that you got a call from your teamleader to travel to a new project location the next day.
Promotions are hard to get and mostly decided by the HQs which are not in Germany. Speaking French might be a plus here. Product trainings are done in the HQs but that's basically it. No real external training were provided due to budget reasons.
Team was showing good support in difficult situations and when a project had to be finished. Alot of times support technician from the HQs were sent to Germany to support in case the project was lacking manpower. However this support was mostly to get the job done. In case of any troubles with unexpected expenses (travelling, equipment) within a project you were left alone and trying hard to get them refunded.
Teamleader was located abroad so there was no real personal interaction except via Skype. This makes it hard to talk about achievements that cannot be seen but are needed for salary discussions. However there are visits to the German location to give at least some kind of "next door" feeling. Calling was always welcome in case support was needed, even at the project location.
Nice and clean rental building with all the IT you need to get your job done. Depending on your job you will have what you need.
Communication and exchange within the German Team was mostly good and supportive. However communication to HQs can be improved. Canada HQ Team made alot of spontaneous trips to Europe without informing the locations.
Wages way too low rated for all the travelling time and efforts to plan. Trips have to be planned and paid upfront and are often hard to cover with the salary. Waiting times for expenses refunds could be improved. Hence you will have to check your paychecks every month to see if all your travelling expenses are covered even from months before ,which means additional unpaid efforts for you. Working contracted salary increase after probation time had to be reminded again. Discussions about salary are hard to make and you might need to prepare yourself for the argument that you won't get a better payment elsewhere (which is definitely not the case after I switched).
Diverse portfolio of customers and industries. New project - New Challenge.
