Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

As a student, I learned a lot.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

As a full-time employee, it was the most toxic working environment I’ve ever experienced. As the only native English speaker and female scientific employee in the business unit at that time, I faced a severe level of discrimination and misogynist behavior.

Here are a few highlights:

- Being hardworking, motivated and proactive are actually disadvantageous when it comes to working there. Because it meant that colleagues would most likely 'delegate' their work to you.
- Due to my limited German language skills, I worked in isolation most of the time, to which, a particular colleague took advantage of this situation. I worked long hours doing his work (among others’) on top of mine, and as a result, burned out multiple times and faced other health issues.
- My role as a 'Scientific Assistant' was far from accurate: project manager, product manager, dev ops, marketing, default English editor, etc. This went unnoticed since the aforementioned colleague took credit for my work. Because he was a favored employee, the bosses were under the impression that I did not do much.
- In small project meetings, only German was spoken, despite the fact that attendees were fluent in English

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I am very sorry that you had such varied and, at the same time, negative experiences working for our institute. On the other hand, I am pleased you were able to improve your skills and knowledge with us. At FOKUS, we maintain a very open interaction and very much regret that you did not share your experience with any persons of trust at our institute. It is very important to us that both students and senior scientists feel comfortable with us and I appreciate the open-minded atmosphere.

It is unfortunate that you often had the feeling of working in isolation due to your limited German skills. From my own experience, this is not usually the case. At FOKUS, we are almost 500 people from over 33 countries and always strive to create a sense of belonging.
