Abuse of Power
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
This school has really really great students, staff and a lot of really great teachers.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
I just want to remind all the white teachers: You do have great responsibility by living and working in a non white country and you do uphold racist colonial structures if you are not actively working on dismantling them. Living “abroad” doesn't take away these responsibilities.
I want certain people to take responsibility for their problematic behaviour.
Kommunikation
A lot of expectations that were never clearly communicated.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Sadly a lot of gossip.
Gleichberechtigung
Some people at this school are abusing their position of power by silencing and intimidating certain people. This didn't only happen to me but also to other mainly female new teachers at the school. I also heard a lot of intimidating and racist comments from white teachers at this school for example about muslim people. If you do not respect muslims and if you think that the sound of a mosques minaret is annoying maybe you should not have chosen the country with the worlds biggest muslim population to live in. All these micro-aggressions and different kinds of discriminations shouldn't go unnoticed. You all know who you are and you can not hide under having non-white friends/partners or living in a non white country. We have 2020 it's time to actively practice anti-discrimination, especially anti-racism.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Of course it's great to give university students the opportunity of an internship but it should take place additionally and not to compensate real paid jobs. As unpaid interns who are financially privileged enough to be able to travel to the other end of the world this also means that we can get ahead of those who you could hire and pay instead: local people.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
There was an obvious division into “German” and “Indonesian” teachers. All the staff members doing the service work (cleaning, cooking etc.) are local people. Of course there is no shame in doing such work but: Are you paying your Indonesian staff members and teachers appropriately? Do you pay "Indonesian" and "German” teachers the same? If not how can you justify that?
