- Interesting mission / topic
- Strong bond with colleagues
- Fun during work
- Lack of focus on well-being of employees
- Slower-than-usual growth
Employees stick together and support one another.
Instead of hiring people, more pressure is put on people to perform and deliver (regular work on weekends required, no uninterrupted vacation). Promises made to change, but has not happened for more than a year and unlikely to happen. High turnover.
Image sold very well to the outside world and new employees. Amongst each other, people see the truth. A lot of promises and pretending.
Does not exist. Weekends, evening times and vacation times are not respected. Vacations of more than 2 weeks not possible.
The company banks a lot on its mission, which employees belive in.
Growth possible, but overall relatively slow.
Colleagues support each other, try their best.
Management deal with resources. High turnover.
High pressure environment, promoted flexibility always with caveats (e.g. "flexible" key working hours from 9 to 17) People Operations managing for the benefit of the company. Employee incentive program (shares) non-existant and intentionally held back. Employee surveys are not filled out truthfully because you can personally identify people.
Established monthly cadence. Content is shallow, least-knowledge principle.
Pay is in line with market standards.
Despite being a young growth startup promoting equal opportunity, age and gender influence how serious you are taken.
It's a young growth startup (and acts as such). Tasks interesting depending on department.
- Fantastic team! (notably in tech!)
- Great tech stack (very strong AI capabilities)
- Fast growing industry in general - with a strong purpose (fighting financial crime)
- More proactive promotion of their internal trainings
- More company swag!
Very positive! I've only joined recently, but really enjoy the strong team spirit. That's fantastic and a big achievement since most people have joined only in the past two years (i.e. during the pandemic). Overall, the company feels very professional and the tech team is insanely strong. Notably their AI and data science team is really experienced (also Sales). I haven't met many tech teams in Munich or Berlin that are en par with them.
In the banking and AML (anti-money-laundering) community HAWK:AI is already a well-established brand. Additionally, the reputation of its tech / data science teams are very strong among Germany-based startups.
I feel there's a clear focus on impact rather than hours spent in front of the computer. Few start-up jobs are typically 9-5 jobs, but HAWK:AI puts a lot of emphasis on flexibility, e.g. on combining work with family life or child care. That seems to come natural since many colleagues have small kids.
So far, I have a very positive impression. Most of the early employees are still in the company (which I always consider a good sign) and overall the founders seem very vested in the personal development of their team members. The hierarchies are flat, and micro-management isn't accepted. In fact, it's expected that one is willing to take full ownership over one's domain.
Fair salaries and competitive with other startups. More attractive than many Berlin-based Fintechs or Munich-based e-commerce startups.
HAWK:AI is a very purpose-driven company. It's mission is "Building the world's best software to fight financial crime". In general, sustainability plays a big role.
New colleagues join every month, but I felt very warmly welcomed and was quickly well integrated. The founders and the team also regularly organize informal get-togethers. Due to the pandemic, many of them naturally have happened online most recently. Most of the early employees are still in the company (which I always consider a good sign).
The founder team is very experienced and some of their most recent hires have been very impressive. In the way they manage their teams it's clear that they have done it before. That's why there's a strong focus on recruitment and culture.
It's a fast growing and professionally managed Fintech / AI start-up, with all its pros and cons. If you're excited about startups you're gonna love HAWK:AI.
In terms of nationalities and backgrounds the team is highly diverse. English is the corporate language and it feels very international. German is still widely spoken, but absolutely not necessary.
In a start-up every week feels different. New challenges, bigger team and a steep learning curve. Certainly one of the top German startups to be in 2022 and beyond!
