Arbeitsatmosphäre

Between colleagues the working environment is great, unfortunately you are only well treated by management if you are doing well. False and empty promises are made to keep people at this company.

Kommunikation

The communication at this company is horrible. Changes are made overnight with no heads-up or consideration for the employees. After some weeks here you feel defeated because you are not heard. Houzz treats you like a child that doesn’t understand numbers or strategy. The company would prefer to keep you in the dark. Not once were actual company performance numbers shown that had any market meaning. It was shocking to employees to never actually know how much the company makes or how much money we were able to bring in that month.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The colleagues are the only thing that keep people at Houzz for longer than a week. Unfortunately, after some months not even the great colleagues can save the horrible work conditions.

Work-Life-Balance

There is no work-life-balance at Houzz. Since it’s sales, it is generally stressful, but most colleagues have severe issues from stress and anxiety. You always feel like you are out of time and need to compensate for days you are sick or when you go on vacation. You never enjoy a moment away from work in fear of the work you are missing.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Unfortunately there is very little competent leadership at this company. If you are not in the top 3 sales people that month, you are singled out in meetings and openly shamed in front of your colleagues. If you underperform for 2 months in a row you can expect to be fired. In most cases leadership is unable to guide you in any way. If they don’t see potential, you will not be supported.

Interessante Aufgaben

This was probably the worst part about this job. The monotony is simply inevitable and torturing. You are a broken record that for 10 hours a day says the same thing over and over again. Innovative people are not welcomed here. Anything you would like to change or bring in is not accepted or implemented (especially if it costs any amount of money).

Arbeitsbedingungen

It looks very Silicon Valley but it’s not. Due to Covid and lack of resources people had to use their personal devices for work, since Houzz did not have the capacity or financial means to support their employees technically.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

The base salary is low. If you are a great salesperson you might have an acceptable salary. Especially if you are fresh out of university and have nothing to compare it to, this is a good start. However, if you unfortunately have a bad month (which happens offen since the product sold is not very well received in the market), the salary is not sufficient. Please do not take this job if you single-handedly have constant financial obligations such as running a household or taking care of offspring. From this salary you would not be able to take care of dependents.

Houzz tries their best to show a positive image towards the outside but after working here and showing my resume to other companies, barely any of them cared for my time at Houzz. The accomplishments you might take from working with this company are not valuable and even if you stay in sales after, in most cases your rank at houzz is not applicable for equally ranked jobs in other companies. In most cases you have to start from zero again. Apart from this, Houzz is not very well known in EU. Hence you tend to be treated poorly by potential clients (insults happened frequently). It simply is a call center and you will be treated thusly by clients and employers.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

There is no prospective or important career development opportunities at this company. Promotion simply led to more work in form of unattainable targets and an insignificant salary increase.
