Well-thought-out company culture, with very smart and wonderful people
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Luminovo's culture is well thought-out and, to say the least, the best company culture I've ever experienced. Quite a handful of people have been on the team since the beginning, which I think speaks volumes about the culture.
Founders:
The founders are very open to feedback, approachable, never hesitate to acknowledge when things don't go well, and do everything within their capacity to change the situation based on the feedback they receive.
Enforcing Changes:
Luminovo is a flat organization, so enforcing changes is easy. Most decisions are usually RFC-driven. Anyone (interns included) can write down thoughts on how things could be improved and get comments from interested people. If a consensus is reached on the next steps, it'll almost immediately be kickstarted by whoever is responsible. Honestly, that's exactly how it is.
Language:
English is the de facto language for all internal communications, despite being based in Germany—which for me was a relief since I relocated to work here. Building a welcoming atmosphere was a vital priority because the employees are from diverse nationalities and locations. This wasn't just something promised; it was always done.
If a non-german speaker stepped into a room in the office with all German speakers, everyone immediately switched to English to make just that one person feel very welcome, and everyone did it happily. This happened every time, and every one was intentional about it.
People:
There are also really smart people on the team, and you'll have the opportunity to learn a lot from them. Never will you ever feel that you’re asking a dumb question. Instead, people are very happy to support you.
Events:
Luminovo hosts yearly company hangouts, and every team hosts multiple in-person team retreats throughout the year. Each of these sessions helped build a strong sense of belonging across the team and made working with them much easier after these events.
In every remote setting, it can be very easy to build a false picture of how people are, but when you meet them in person you learn more about them. After each of these team events, I felt I got to know my colleagues better, which had the positive effect of never hesitating to reach out if I ever had a question.
Conclusion:
While working with the team, I made many great connections, many of whom I'm still in active communication with. Indeed, it was the best place I've ever worked until I left.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
This isn't a con. However, depending on your career priorities, it could be a place to stay long-term or mid-term. Nonetheless, irrespective of how long you stay, you'll have a quality impact in the electronics industry and learn a lot - giving feedback, taking feedback, harnessing and improving your skills, communicating better, and much more.
The electronics space is very technical, and based on the company's current stage, some can consider it very niche. Unfortunately, if you're dead set on doing something that's directly used by lots of people, Luminovo might not be a tremendous fit at the moment (things are changing, though ;)).
However, if you're looking for something that has the potential to influence a large industry but could be used by just a few people, then Luminovo will be a great fit.
