In general, colleagues in the Berlin office were quite nice and supportive, deserving a 4-star rating. However, project managers in the Berlin branch have limited decision-making power, as most decisions are made in Rotterdam. Unfortunately, Rotterdam is often unaware of project processes and communication styles in Germany, which leads to poor decision-making. This leaves Berlin with tight hands and little time/space to organize work, resulting in tension and overall stress that could have been avoided.
Many long working hours and frequent submissions. It is quite common for employees to be engaged in multiple projects simultaneously.
There are limited opportunities to expand knowledge. The only option is to take a peer "course" from an experienced colleague in Rotterdam, mostly focused on BIM topics. However, these colleagues are often overwhelmed with work, making it difficult to find additional time for teaching. As a result, these training video calls are frequently postponed.

Within the Berlin office: 3 stars - generally supportive environment, especially for newcomers.
Rotterdam: 1 star - extremely competitive and toxic.
There are no older colleagues, the average age is 32
The senior architects in the Berlin office are very respectful and patient, deserving a 4-star rating. However, they have limited decision-making power and are fully dependent on the Rotterdam office. In contrast, seniors from Rotterdam often engage in micromanagement and frequently cross professional boundaries, warranting a rating of just 1 star.
The Berlin office did not have enough chairs in the first two years. Colleagues had to coordinate the chairs among themselves, planning which days to come to the office to share the available chairs and keyboards.
Within the Berlin office: 3 stars. Communication with Rotterdam: 1 star.
The most positive aspect of working for MVRDV is the office's promotion of diversity. People from all around the world, with different backgrounds, ages, and social groups, work for MVRDV, and everyone is equally respected.
0/10 would recommend unless you 1) have a specific use for MVRDV‘s name on your CV and have a plan in mind for your next professional pursuit 2) you are a well-rounded professional who is not looking to grow but rather exchange your expertise for favourable conditions 3) you have a special relationship with management or partners in terms of networking.
Don’t be fooled by the name or better said be aware that you will be working only for it. The Berlin office is a satellite and nothing more - as an employee you experience all the negatives of working for a large corporate name and zero of the positives of the creative energy, fulfilling work and incredible friendly working atmosphere that you benefit from in Rotterdam.
For starters rent a proper office. Having a rental contract for shitty spaces is not an excuse for a very profitable large architectural company.
Office spaces are mediocre and depressing. For a design office of that scale it is unacceptable to work in spaces that cover the bare minimum of the legal requirements to call a room an Arbeitsstätte. White rectangular rooms with 2 rows of desks facing each other, depressing artificial light and not enough natural light, lack of common areas, lack of communication & exchange spaces, lack of appropriate eating areas. Forget about being inspired!
Work life balance is pretty good. No overhours.
You can’t grow. Only good for writing the experience in the CV.
Salaries are LOW. Even in the context of architecture and even for Berlin.
No office culture. Just people sitting on desks or in phone booths for 8 hrs and going home.
There’s loud construction works in the building ongoing for over 2 years.
By far more than 50% of your time at work will be spent on bridging the communication gap between Rotterdam and Berlin. The bigger the project, the more time you will be spending in a phone booth on internal communication rather than external.
Pay extra attention to communication with office management. Difficult to collaborate with. Operating exclusively for self and corporate interest
All the interesting work happens in Rotterdam.
