Ex-Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/inHat bis 2020 im Bereich Marketing / Produktmanagement bei ResearchGate GmbH gearbeitet.
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Still, some colleagues are awesome besides the working conditions we have. Remote work and flexibility are highly appreciated.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Sexism and favoritism for certain genders. Salaries are highly disproportionate and clearly gender based. Promotions for female co-workers are non- existing. Having a different opinion from management can make you lose your job.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Management positions: if you are promoting from within, prepare them, provide training. Managers are promoted for the time they have worked there and not for the managerial skills (that are obviously lacking).
HR: you need to advocate more towards employees. The past lay-offs just increased the distrust we have and no one is willing to share any feedback due to fear of repercussions.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Nothing
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
No career path, bad management, team leads are so full of themselves they don’t know how to actually lead people and therefore no results are achieved. Everything is a mess and toxic, toxic, toxic environment.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Start all over. Everything is a mess. Company culture is a zero.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
People are nice by themselves, but atmosphere is toxic
Work-Life-Balance
After 6pm you can switch the computer
Karriere/Weiterbildung
No career path. They just use you to get what they need. No respect from anyone there
Kommunikation
Many of the people don’t know how to give feedback or communicate if something goes wrong
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Salary is incredibly low, no benefits
Interessante Aufgaben
So boring and nothing is automatised. Horrible from 2023 perspective when AI will overtake so many tasks
Great mission, but I didn't like the atmosphere at all

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
The mission. It was a nice feeling to support it and that is why I signed up for it in the first place.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
They should create a atmosphere of opportunity and inclusion. I know, they try from high up, but there are too many people already working there, who won't allow this.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
I found it very hard to work there. I saw a lot of lone warriors and being helpful and supportive was rare. Instead constant pressure created anxieties and bad behaviour between workers.
Image
Its a great entry in your cv, I guess.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Rare, but existing. Most people mind their own business for reasons.
Gleichberechtigung
There is a huge difference between what management wants the company to be and what it is actually like.
Interessante Aufgaben
The best part of working here. The mission is great. You can really luck out on the topic you work here.

Read through my points.
Wie kann dich dein Arbeitgeber im Umgang mit der Corona-Situation noch besser unterstützen?
Fire managers who are blatantly incompetent. Hire more business-minded people. The rest you can read in my comments.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Friendly among staff. The company has also created a hierarchical structure that is inappropriate for a company of that size and there exists a culture of micromanagement.
Image
Researchers like ResearchGate. Many researchers with whom I have spoken think that ResearchGate is an NGO and wonder about the long-term viability of the business model.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
Training took the form of time for Coursera and Datacamp. The performance reviews were not tied to salary and promotion, so you have to book an extra time for that conversation. The company is hierarchical and looking to increase the hierarchy, which is not good for young hopefuls.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Hire/firing due to inability to formulate the right hiring requirements is not very socially responsible and destructive to the lives of those duped into leaving jobs and other opportunities for a misrepresented job.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
The lower staff are friendly with each other.
A lot of people left the department while I was there. Higher management tried to sell their constant hiring as growth, but according to my observations, it was trying to cover the hemorrhaging of employees.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
I experienced the worst management in my two-decade career. My manager had shockingly poor ability to comprehend organizational needs and skills at the most basic level, understand what skills are need in their team and showed absolute lack of ability to design a vetting process.
Worst micromanagement I ever experienced in my career. The worst onboarding process I have seen in my career. Asking someone to just read the company Wiki is not onboarding! I got the impression that this lack of proper management was due to the immaturity and lack of experience within the managers I met. HR, as I experienced them, displayed below standard service when it came to standard German HR practices. I needed to remind them at least 3 times until I received documents they were obliged to send me.
The fact that manager(s) are allowed to act like the way I experienced and still keep their jobs is extremely telling about what executives and leadership define as acceptable behavior. This type of behavior can only thrive if terrible management and negative leadership are either taught, tolerated or both.
Gleichberechtigung
My department head spoke German to Germans and English to foreigners, regardless of the English level of the Manager or the German level of the foreigner. This led to misunderstandings that could have been avoided if I were allowed to speak German despite being a foreigner.
Other colleagues were happy that I could speak German.
The language asymmetry sent a strong message to me as a foreigner that I would not be seen as an equal by the Germans.
Interessante Aufgaben
Mission driven-company. Interesting market.
The tools I saw were not at the industry standard for usability and process efficiency. The only reason that this way of working was accepted by the higher management and the team members themselves, in my opinion, is that the staffers are so junior and underpaid.
Probably the worst place to work in Berlin. Toxic, small-minded, badly managed, severely underpaid, old tech.

Be like Sci-Hub and drop the ads.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Some colleagues are actually nice to work with. But they're mainly in the lower staff.
Image
At the beginning it was a nice idea but after working there for 3 years you realize that nothing good will come out of a company that totally mistreats its workers.
Work-Life-Balance
Not that bad, as long as you commit yourself to a really underpaid job with no career progress. Take it only if you're really desperate.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
No description needed. There isn't. Actually, you will feel dumber after you join the company.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Free lunch (which they make you pay for at the end of the month).
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Absolutely none.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Some are still friends, but those are mainly in the lower staff tier. Upper management and team leads will try to destroy your career, if they need to, for their own, personal advantage. This is mainly because they were never meant to be managers, they don't know how to be managers, and now they're clinging with nails and teeth to that small time, fake power, position. Beware.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
Kings of the world, right? That's why they can never leave ResearchGate. Real life will slap them in the face and won't feed their egos.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
This could be never ending but to name a few: managers work on a hire-fire basis because of their inexperience and huge egos; some old employees opened several cases in court against some people in the company because of extremely unacceptable behavior (in all tiers); totally unexperienced; their behavior is so toxic towards whoever is not in their "friend group" that it almost makes you sad to see how small minded and pety some of those people are. They live within a fake bubble of status and ego while they, themselves, are extremely underpaid and are working towards disgrace.
Arbeitsbedingungen
No A/C in summer. The offices look cool on the outside but then again, the sign is directly proportional to the C-level ego. Just a fake cover.
Kommunikation
There isn't any. If you come from another - established - company you will really struggle with the pre-historical meetings and lack of communication processes. People are very unexperienced, especially managers.
Gleichberechtigung
Foreigners are known to receive different treatment in the company. For no reason, if you're disliked by someone, they will find a way to fire you, or make you quit - either by bullying or by installing fake PDP reviews.
Interessante Aufgaben
Really pre-historical technology. In AdTech ResearchGate is the laughing toy of the big boys. Step aside and let the others do their job.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
- Changing the world of science - International team with many talented colleagues - Work life balance - Free catered lunch
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
- Badly implemented corporate values in daily work - Ignorant and erratic top down design decision-making - Too much micromanagement - Lack of transparency - Lack of desire and ability to lead and develop ppl - Unprofessional process of individual career planning, uncoordinated with HR department
Verbesserungsvorschläge
- Trust in your employees’ skills and competences - Train management by external experts - Offer employees a way to give feedback on managements’ performance/skills/working ethos - Communicate openly on all levels - Focus more on hiring ppl with business work experience and fewer scientists - Promote ppl by ability not on the basis of seniority - Create clear expectations, ensure psychological safety, lead from the top
