Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Good brand name, good training places for youngster who wants to get exposed to many industries, learn how to make pretty powerpoint and excel sheets.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

it's hard to get to know someone or get to know the company. One needs to be extrovert making contacts with everyone and especially with senior leaders in order to be ahead.

As long as the promotion is based on how much money a person has brought to the company, the quality of delivered work will be limited.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Be real. So pretentious and unorganized. Senior leaders don't have one voice that the junior members gets extra work or just need to wait till when/if the senior members come up with a decision. But this is true of many many big corporations.

I know that consulting is there to fix the problems that have not been solved. And for that they have to appear as if they can fix problems, in many cases they can't. This is where it doesn't seem like they are real. And even if the problem has not been solved, consulting can leave the company as is, and the impact is absent. As long as their aim is to earn a lot of money from industry, the real impact will not be realized and the wrong person will lead the company.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

In general nice atmosphere between colleagues except when under pressure. There's a sense or urgency all the time, when it's actually necessary. For example, we are told to complete it by end of this week so we work hard till late at night, but the senior reviewer takes forever to review it so we feel used for sacrificing time and effort.

Kommunikation

The company is so large that it has the common big company problem or not knowing what other offices are doing. This shows up as lack of communication. The communication within the office seems to matter a lot, you need to put your name to the senior leaders in order to be promoted so the communication becomes more tactical and not authentic.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The company is fragmented by countries, offices, division, group, etc. There also seems to be competition among offices in EU, US, and the rest to win the job and one needs to mark the territory in order to secure job. So the competition among consulting is huge which shows up as the internal competition among senior leaders. Within the team, it's alright. Some people were annoying, but in general once you get to know someone they are usually expected to behave well. At least there's a bunch of mandatory trainings to tell us how to be polite to each other

Work-Life-Balance

Consulting is not a place to seek for work-life-balance. But I don't know any job that has really achieved work-life-balance all the time. When on client projects, I worked normally 50 hours. In order to do extra job, which is a requirement for promotion, one needs to squeeze even more. That means spend all the time you have on work at Deloitte, write publications when you are not working on client projects (ideally), do other initiatives.

There are perks like meditation apps, gym tickets (which was always unavailable), 1st class train ticket, and free Half-tax on SBB, which was good.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Consulting is a place to propose and achieve an unrealistic goals, present yourself as professional whether you know the stuff or not, and you get awarded for it. Regarding conflict, there's a huge conflict at the top level. As they are all at same level as partners, there seems to be no rules how to resolve issues. Many resolve issues by leaving the company and get hired at a higher level/salary at another consulting company.

Interessante Aufgaben

For young people who have never been exposed to fortune 500 companies, the projects seems cool. M&A, finance, strategy, etc. sounds all cool and a good training ground. But the daily work of a junior member maybe to pamper clients and make excel sheet and powerpoint look crisp. And hopefully you learn something in this short time.

One learns a lot about how to make pretty powerpoint much more than the content. If one really wants to become an expert in a subject, then leave consulting and go to industry.

There's a lot of request to write publication to make Deloitte known as experts. It's a bad practice that the junior staff write it but they are not even acknowledged for their time and effort. I find this unprofessional.

Gleichberechtigung

I don't know about salary equality between men and women and what not, but I assume Deloitte Switzerland is not violating anything as it's now monitored by Swiss government or agency.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

There's so many young people in this company compared to industry with similar history. So the only older people left there seems to be at the top with power.

Arbeitsbedingungen

IT services were working well.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Now that ESG is a big topic, Deloitte is also making noise, but I'm not sure if they are actually doing anything more than making noise. I don't think the office space is environmentally impactful. In terms of social aspects, yes Deloitte has donated money to Israel and Gaza at war. There was also a way where you pay 25 CHF and the company also donated 25 CHF for a cause.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Salary was fine. Bonus sucks. And the year you quit the job or you are fired, you get no bonus. So it seems that people send out resignation letter the month you get your bonus.

Image

The image of Deloitte is spectacular. I think that is what they care the most. But I have to say that the reality doesn't necessarily keep up with the depth of knowledge or content.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

It's a good place to learn how corporation works, how to strive well in male-dominated world. One needs to learn things quickly in order to look good in front of important clients.

Weiterbildung: there are courses offered by colleagues on different topics, and they share their experiences. They are helpful, but it seems impossible to attend them, when you are working for client. At Deloitte Switzerland, there's a required hours of additional education, some trainings are absolutely mandatory. If you don't take these mandatory trainings, your bonus maybe gone.
