Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The office, it's nice, but has issues in Summer and Winter months. Colleagues are also very nice.

A number of employees were fired or left during my tenure - the company even tries to take my review down for suggesting this!

Fake reviews on this platform! This review has been taken down several times, so it appears as though someone in HR or the management is constantly on here reporting reviews like this one. I find this sad because I am trying to give potential employees an accurate picture of what is happening with this company. It would be helpful if Piavita tried to build a strong culture and take the feedback on board rather than trying to take down all the reviews from people that take their time to give honest feedback (Prevention is better than cure)

Be honest with your employees and don't take out your own issues or shortcomings on them.
Accept feedback from your employees, good or bad, and then do something constructive with this to become better managers
Build a culture that people really want to take part in, don't just focus on your image.
Try and work on execution of projects rather than just leaving them to stagnate.

Honestly, many people are just frustrated by the unacceptable behaviour of the founders. I won't speak for others, but my impression is that nobody would speak up in the office regarding this.

Interessante Aufgaben

On first glance, the jobs to be done seem very exciting, in reality they are never executed. This should be the most interesting part of any interesting task, but instead the work is completed to a certain point and the tasks are just never mentioned again. It's difficult to gauge where things are at with the product. A number of other employees also noticed the same.

Very flexible if you know how to handle yourself.

Dishonesty and opaqueness.
Very hierarchical.
Nepotism on management levels.
Too many managers and not enough people that can actually get things done.
Financial instability - likely won't survive 2020.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Be transparent. Move managers to Berlin so you can actually see what's going with their teams. Focus on improving your company instead of being here writing fake reviews. I find it incredible that they dared to claim that the ones that are leaving negative reviews are people that did not do their jobs. Everybody knows that everyone gives their best and the company and founders show absolutely no appreciation for nobody.

The atmosphere is heavy. All the colleagues are super nice, but not a single employee feels safe. Fear and anger are constant topics of gossip. You can feel how every employee in every team is slowly getting frustrated at how things are done in this company.
You have to cope with lots of Slack communication. Even the HR works remotely (not in Berlin, not in Zürich). Managers come to Berlin for a couple of days once a month or two, and when they do, the atmosphere gets even heavier. On the plus side, having all the management working remotely allows for a pretty flexible work life.

Employees do not speak well about the company. The C-level clearly cares a lot about the external image of the company, but they have no idea how bad it is internally. Often you hear colleagues referring to Piavita as "a joke", "a failed experiment", etc.

Some people have a really nice work-life balance, others do not. While some people come and go and work their hours however they want, there is another group of people who apparently celebrate the fact that there are people working 16 hours a day for almost half a year in order to "save the company".

The company was a good stepping stone towards something better, somewhere else.

Salary is competitive. 25 days of holidays, no extra benefits. However, once you sign up for a salary, that's what you'll get.

I cannot say anything about environmental, much less about social responsibility without seriously getting in legal trouble due to NDAs. However, be wary of the nasty business practices you'll see or hear about day to day.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Colleagues are what makes this startup ok-ish. We regularly cook together and go out for beers. Nevertheless, staff turnover is ridiculously high. They recently fired almost half of the company because of a lack of investment, and when those colleagues are gone, there is not much else to look forward in Piavita.

While team leads and mid-level managers are nice, reasonable people, the C-level makes them work way beyond what I consider appropriate. This level of stress permeates down to the employees under those managers.

Nowadays the company is rated so bad that either the founders or someone from HR is posting fake positive reviews to push the score up. This review has been brought down three times already. Do not fall in that trap.

Most people would agree that it's the C-level that is bringing the company to a bad place in more ways than one.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The office is quite nice, we have a really nice kitchen and a bathroom with a shower. The office however does not have AC and it gets really hot (34 C) in the summer since it's on the top floor. We also have had problems with the heating this winter. The internet is sometimes slow and there are no plans of improving it. The C-level actually threatened to restrict access to all personal devices (i.e. you cannot connect your phone to the office WiFi) because they argue that there are too many devices on the network and that's why the internet is slow.

Kommunikation

All communication feels like it's top-down. As mentioned, management works remotely, so all communication happens over Slack. Besides daily stand-ups, management most of the times just ignores any feedback you have because there is always some arbitrary top-priority imposed by the C-level to please investors.

Management does not negotiate or even evaluate the feasibility of a project/feature before committing it to investors with unreasonable deadlines. By the time you hear about the requirements, it's too late for anything to be negotiated.

Transparency is another big issue. Managers and leads do not want to acknowledge that there are issues with the product, the working structure, the processes. Problems are not communicated internally.

Gleichberechtigung

I consider Piavita to be an equal-opportunity employer. There is a good amount of diversity in almost every aspect. Piavita employs people of all races, religions, genders and sexual orientations. I do not give 5-stars because I have seen cases not of discrimination, but of favoritism towards German or Swiss people.

Interessante Aufgaben

Since the C-level is short-sighted, there is no room for innovation anymore. New projects are cancelled or deprioritized all the time. Especially in 2020, since there is no money to even allow experimentation or exploration of new technologies, Piavita will surely stagnate.

It feels like priorities are not in order, people just care about looking good to investors and having a successful company. What they don't realize is that without the product the company is nothing.

You can't really rely on the founders, they are never in the office and important decisions are never made on time.

Work-Life-Balance

The schedule was ok and you could manage to have a balance with home office options; nevertheless, since the founders and decision makers were never available you often felt like you didn't end up your day with a decision made and then they would reply via Slack after your workday was finished. Could be tricky sometimes to separate the work hours from the leisure time because they are running a company from Slack.

The colleagues were really the few good things about this place! Everyone comes from different places in the world and you could have a laugh with your colleagues.

As already stated, there was not really supervision being made from the people that should do it. The attitude was more "do what you have to do, try not to make too many mistakes and if something goes bad we fix it on the last minute" - which can be good at times due to the freedom you have to develop your ideas; nevertheless, the founders wouldn't never give feedback (good or bad) about anything! So, you could spend a lot of time doing something in one direction and later one everything was changed "just because I said so". There was no logic behind tasks and often employees just didn't see the point due to lack of supervision.

Kommunikation

There is simply 0 communication on this company; you start to work there, they make you feel like your job is super important and after sometime they just stop paying attention to your messages and stop giving the importance that they stated in the beginning. No one is really honest and open about the vision, mission and there's 0 communication about future plans because this place it's just too uncertain!

Interessante Aufgaben

Some tasks were interesting since the industry is interesting, but employees often would end up doing a lot of tasks which they were overqualified to be doing.

Much better than it is rated but like always, people only give feedback and write reviews when they are not happy or they had a different view on things. Shouldn't be overrated as these things happen everywhere.

A start-up means a great vision that needs to be accomplished within a short timeframe - of course, that's a lot of work. However, compared to my previous jobs it's totally fair and i'm much more flexible in organizing my time.

From my perspective and within my team, there is good vibe and team spirit. No competitive thinking at all, which i really like (people are supportive as much as they can).

Modern and nicely designed open space office in Berlin (comes with all usual pro's and con's), Apple equipment, tables you can lift up and down for healthy working, a nice kitchen to cook, drinks, fruits, coffee, Yoga. People get motivated to join the sales team at customer sites and seeing the product live and the animals is so motivating and a LOT OF FUN!
