I am very disappointed with the recruitment process at Smallpdf AG. It took over two months, during which I had three interviews, including the completion of a comprehensive business case. I spent significant time preparing, solving the case, and then presenting it for an hour.
However, after receiving a rejection, I reached out to request feedback to help improve myself for the future. Despite following up twice and giving them a month to respond, I received no answer. I find this lack of response highly disrespectful, considering the considerable time and effort I had invested.
Unfortunately, this experience has left a negative impression of Smallpdf AG, particularly in terms of their professionalism and respect for candidates’ time.
Asking candidates to do (in written) exercises that lay out strategy, execution and many years worth of plans truly borders with IP theft.
Please rethink the way you assess candidates. There’s plenty of approaches out there. For starters, it is absolutely commonplace to sign an NDA at a later stage of an interview when things get serious and when deeper topics get discussed and both parties are then protected. As simple as that.
Very shockingly, the communication with regards to the process/current status becomes minimal as one moves through the stages of the interview process.
After many rounds and time invested - the communication stops. It is simply very unprofessional and shows a lack of accountability, decision making agency and overall messiness in the way things are done.
Please know that the way a potential candidate is treated throughout the recruiting process is the manifestation of the company culture and “how things are done” and sadly - as nicely as it looks written on your website it is not reflected in your process.
Wishing you all the best
