Toxicity of this environment (tech-comm) soars beyond reality, entering unimaginable dimensions
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
The company is good - one could do a lot of good work. The tech and opportunities to work with are excellent. There is even a training budget one could avail. The criticism in my review is about the technical communications department and a lack of feedback and review channels.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
No checks and balances in place - There are no exit interviews or skip-level meetings in place and a toxic manager can keep destroying one reportee after another and that is what is happening. This lack of grip over reality is ultimately harming the company more than anyone else. Someone thinks that like the number of cases handled in support, number of JIRA tickets handled in engineering\technical communication could be an objective measure of productivity - and there is no one to correct them.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Before you make a young person a manager, check them for ability to communicate, listen once in a while, understand humans, and the ability to not get stuck in a negativity loop.
After you make someone a manager, have at least some avenue for feedback on the manager - otherwise, the environment can become extremely demoralising and unhealthy.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
I never thought how big a hurdle this can be - and how bad this could be and yet allowed to take place. The leadership thinks the number of hours in a JIRA day are 24 - not 8 and is proud of this knowledge.
Interessante Aufgaben
Exposure to the tech/CI-CD/assignments/cross-functional teams is largely very good. The tech-comm leadership however does not differentiate between an exciting and a boring task - or the fact that a worker can find something more interesting than the other.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
The budget for training is good. Membership of professional bodies is also sponsored. These are good things.
