Great precarious research opportunity
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Reduce hierarchies and bureaucracy. Communicate more clearly and inform staff more openly. Acknowledge problems instead of glossing over them. Enforce legal regulations on working hours in science.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Depends a lot on the working group and your individual superior. I experience a lot of pressure.
Kommunikation
Very bureaucratic, the really important information is only disclosed to a small circle of people.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
In my team ok.
Work-Life-Balance
The lack of time recording is a factor in unpaid overtime and weekend work.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Very hierarchical structures. Decisions are made by the scientific director and a small group of mostly Italian group leaders. For this group (internally nicknamed "the family"), the normal rules do not exist.
Interessante Aufgaben
Interesting and challenging work in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
Gleichberechtigung
Pretty good when you compare old/young, men/women or different nationalities.
There are double standards when you compare people from the upper management with the ordinary employees.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
In the public sector, it is very difficult to get a permanent job and have it until retirement. Therefore, most people in science below management level are relatively young and drop out of the system sooner or later.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Great building and laboratory equipment. Support for your research work from other departments such as building management, office staff, IT, laboratory management, core facilities, library.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Not much apart from announcements and self-promotion. Scientific output is valued more than everything else.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Usual TVÖD standard.
Image
Many staff think badly of the management. Self-perception of the board and reality do not match.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
You can learn a lot but you can't make a career.
