Freedom, responsibility and transparency
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Trust, be your own bosss
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Sometimes a little difficult to know what is expected; there are a few strong voices that haven't realised that sometimes, the best ideas sometimes come from the quietest voices (I think our office can still grow in the way we communicate)
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Re-evaluate EVP. The spend-it card is gone, the Economist subscription is gone and I don't see family coaching as a suitable replacement since I don't get any value from that. Recently I noticed that offers from competitors matched our EVP more and more closely.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Striving for a positive atmosphere, generally appreciative, very transparent and feedback-driven
Kommunikation
Feedback driven and transparent; if colleagues expect more from you or you have done something well, this is not discussed behind your back but said directly
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Colleagues care about each other, never before experienced in this form elsewhere; there are always people with whom you get along more or less well, but overall everyone makes an effort to get along well with each other
Work-Life-Balance
Compared to other consultancies, Netlight is pretty strict on the 40h week and in two years I never had to work overtime. There are many events with which you can exceed the 40 hours, but that is all optional and it is up to you what you are passionate about.
There is a third party which offers talks around sustainable working and family life but those talks are as helpful as a buzzfeed article. They mostly go like this: "You're stressed? Figure out what stresses you out and get rid of it! Problem solved." so it's more of a pro-forma thing.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
At Netlight, you don't have a supervisor in the traditional sense, but a mentor. The mentor does not decide on the salary alone and is more of a contact person with whom you can reflect on your career development. Most mentors are very transparent. You are never surprised by salary increases or the lack of them, because you reflect on this yourself with the mentor. Mentors and other senior colleagues usually try to push you instead of pushing you away. Netlight has the concept of leading through others: it's about having a bigger impact as a senior when you step out of the spotlight and help junior people become better. But classic supervisors just don't exist here.
Interessante Aufgaben
It all depends on the assignment/project. The sales team always tries to find a project for you that you find exciting. But that doesn't always work out.
Sometimes you have a real rock star project where you really want to achieve something. But sometimes it's a classic software development project where you have to play code-monkey for a few months or so. The nice thing is that all projects are limited in time so there is always something new!
Gleichberechtigung
Netlight embraces diversity and has a surprisingly good male/female ratio (I think >30% females consultants last time I checked). Diversity in other areas (LGBT, Colour, ...) is not discussed to that extend but I never experienced any kind of situation where that would have ever been a problem.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
There are few older colleagues, mostly due to the fact that it's a little more difficult for people who have a classic software engineering or consulting background to get into the "you're your own bosss" style of working. However the colleagues that are a bit older are just as valued as everybody else.
Arbeitsbedingungen
You decide for yourself which tech stack (Apple, Windows, ...) you want to work with. The offices are usually well visited, but there are too few meeting rooms, so it can be a bit noisy. If you need a more powerful notebook, you have to have a good reason. As a result, the devices we have tend to be lame. In my opinion, we saved money at the wrong end - on the other hand, that's money that comes to me as a salary ;)
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Your entire carbon footprint will be offset by Netlight. Netlight tries to be environmentally conscious. There is also the possibility that you as an employee can choose an environmental project, in which Netlight then invests a little money. However, I think the latter is a bit greenwashing. But the other aspects are good.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Pay is average - compared to other jobs good but if you only look at the consulting industry I had better offers.
Image
There is no marketing. Most projects are won through word of mouth. When you go to a company that has already worked with Netligtern, you really notice that they trust you because of the work of others that came before you. So in a way, Netlight already has a reputation as a strong performer.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
There are so-called Genuine Consulting courses. These are about how to become a better consultant, how to deal with difficult situations and how to communicate better. It's not about being able to talk an Eskimo into buying a refrigerator. Apart from that, there is no training in that sense.
There is a good and flexible career ladder that you can move up to really. How fast you do that or want to do that is up to you. Your mentor will definitely help you with that. The salary usually goes up around 10% a year. However, manager/partner salaries are not huge (it's a lot, but nothing compared to other consultancies). So "the ones at the top" don't get rich off the more junior consultants.
