I was asked to explain my past experiences, how I make sure my work is on point, how do I see my work, how I envision my future as a freelancer... Overall, it felt more like a natural conversation than an interview, whether I was talking to the HR, the hiring manager or one of the co-founders. No need to worry, I don't think anybody is going to ask you who your spirit animal is or to try to put you under stress. Everyone made me feel really comfortable, to the point where I felt I could be myself. In my opinion, this is how applicants can really shine (and the best way for both to see if there is a match).
There were no clear instructions for the challenge, which meant that as a candidate you never really know when you are "done". This could be one of the reasons why the challenge itself was extremely time consuming, much more than the standard in the industry. Furthermore, it seems like there were (unintentional) errors in the data the company provided for the challenge (!) which made it even more confusing. I should mention that I passed the challenge and my application was rejected at a pretty late stage, with an email that already stated that I should not ask for a feedback, because they won't provide one. It's understandable that companies don't want to write a feedback for each and every candidate that applied but for a candidate who passed a few stages and spent many hours (that amounted in my case to about two full working days) on the (very messy) process, this is completely unacceptable. There was no preparation whatsoever before an interview, so one would never know what kind of questions one would be asked - personal or professional, if professional - about what, etc. It all seemed very random. Looking for a job is a stressful and painful process. Candidates should not be treated that way.
