During 2024, the C-Level completely changed: while before we were all happy and sometimes there were real friendships, now in the company there is only pessimism and sadness. The new management is gradually laying off all employees with more than two years of seniority. Economically it is a disaster, few sales and many customers cancel contracts.

Until last year the company was in a nice office in a quiet area (Tempelhofer Hafen). Then it moved to Mitte, in a noisy and chaotic co-working space (to save on rent). You can work from home, but be aware that you won't be part completely of the team.

Those who leave the company simply disappear: no announcement, communication, note. Nothing at all, as if they had never existed. Management tries awkwardly to motivate, but unfortunately the numbers speak for themselves. No feedback meetings for years, the HR department simply deals with internal bureaucracy, it is of no support to employees.

Only 2 women are Team Leads, all the other 8 are men.

The product is basically the same as always, as is the market, there have been no major revolutions for some time. So no new interesting challenge.

The company is 15 years old, and this comes with some legacy ways of working. These are slowly being changed, but they are still present in some cases.

The atmosphere is lively with very little office politics. The company has been going through a transition over the last 12 months, and this comes with expectations of performance. But this does not mean you cannot have a laugh and a beer with your colleagues. What it does mean is that everyone needs to step up and do what needs to be done, even if it is outside of your job description.

No one is expected to work outside of working hours. If there is a personal issue that needs to be solved, every manager is accommodating to that. The hybrid working style allows everyone to be able to take care of personal duties when they need to.

Each person is given a yearly budget (post-probation) of 1000 euros to spend towards upskilling for their career. This can be courses, events, or books.

Everyone feels that their salary could be higher regardless of the company that they work for. At Customer Alliance you will have a salary discussion every 6 months and be given the opportunity to motivate for a raise or a promotion. At the end of the day it is up to the budget and the managers discretion if it is awarded. But the fact that these conversations happen regularly is a positive.

As the company is going through a transition, there is the clash of the ambitious versus the complacent. But these are minimal and largely each team is left to do the work that they need to do. Overall there is a decent level of respect and friendliness in the office with other colleagues, as well as online. You cannot expect everyone to like everyone else and in this case, respect is a win.
Only thing that is being worked on is the ways of working between the commercial and technical teams. for years there was a wall between the teams and this is slowly coming down.

Age is not a factor when dealing with colleagues. Promotions are awarded to the person that is best suited for the job, whether they are 60 or 21. Everyone is treated with the respect that the deserve.

Goals are often ambitious but realistic and communicated well to the teams individually and in wider settings. Supervisors are encouraged to coach up team members that are struggling rather than letting them fend for themselves. The feedback structure could be formalised more, but as it is a small company there are often other priorities that get in the way.

Recently moved to a new office located in a co-working space. There are many amenities that are offered that make the working conditions great. The only down side is that the call rooms and meeting rooms are shared with the other companies in the building and this can lead to some clashes.
Kommunikation
Every week each team has the option to present their work to the wider company, in addition there is a monthly town hall meeting where the executive team share the current business results and give the opportunity for anyone to ask questions anonymously if they wish. Otherwise it is up to each manager to choose how much they want to share with their team. Praise is given in public and is celebrated.
Communication could be more open as there are still some private team channels, but this is a work in progress. The new culture during the current transition is to default to open communication.

The company believes that hard work should be rewarded, no matter who you are. The team has over 23 nationalities represented, and out of 7 managers 3 are women, and based on current performance this will increase in the near future.

Constant layoffs are the norm, with no trace of a workplace culture—there are no performance bonuses, at least not in my department. Colleagues simply vanish, and no one ever mentions them again, as if they never existed. Farewells only happen if you choose to leave on your own—then you get a card because you’re leaving empty-handed. HR are unfriendly, officious, and arrogant.

Employees have a very negative opinion of the company. Personally, I would advise anyone against working here. A company is its people, and here the management is blinded by the desire for profit.

Work-life balance is good. You can work from home and from the office. However, one does not feel satisfaction from their hard work because they are not rewarded for it. You can only hear: "thank you", and be fired a week later.

There is some sort of "club" of people in this company, they think they are better than the rest and show it (don't speak to others, don't invite others for lunch, spend all day together, literally). You get promoted only if they like you and do whatever they want you to do. If you don't, they ghost you, don't celebrate your successes. Yes, like children do. Knowing that, the atmosphere is easy to imagine. Only one female manager and other women are not promoted upward (unlike men, that's a fact). If you don't come to the office, they will ignore you and discriminate compared to those coming. Financial situation is disastrous and it shows in the atmosphere... Luckily some colleagues are amazing but not sufficient to balance how despicable those at the top are.

Women are not promoted and sometimes not even informed of open positions! In a team of 2 women there for years, the Team lead position got offered to a man that joined early... 2024. These women were not even informed of the job opening...

Zum Thema Kommunikation: wir sind stets bemüht, offen mit unseren Mitarbeitern zu sein. Aus diesem Grund haben wir das wöchentliche Company Meeting und regelmäßige Meetings in den verschiedenen Departments. schön, dass du gern zu uns auf Arbeit kommst! Wir geben zu, ein wenig grüner könnten wir schon werden. Ein erster Anfang war immerhin der Wechsel von Papierhandtüchern zu Stoffhandtüchern in unseren Küchen. Das Thema Mülltrennung werden wir einmal bei unserer Office Managerin ansprechen, sie findet sicher eine bessere Lösung.
Und bis dahin hoffen wir, dass du keine Emails auf Papier ausdruckst, um sie mit ins Meeting zu nehmen. Dafür hast du einen eigenen Laptop! ;-)

Mal über einen firmeninternen Kindergarten nachdenken ;) Mit den anderen Firmen im Tower eine Kantine einrichten lassen?
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Das Team ist seit 2012 deutlich angewachsen, da fällt es schwerer, zu allen Kollegen eine Bindung auf zu bauen. In den einzelnen Teams und Märkten bewerte ich den Kollegenzusammenhalt als sehr gut.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Keiner hebt sich auf ein Podest. Wenn mal was sein sollte, kann man mit Allen reden, egal ob Teamchef, Personalabteilung oder direkt mit der Geschäftsführung.
Kommunikation
Bei Thema Kommunikation hat man -egal in welcher Fimra- immer ein bisschen Luft nach oben... aber wir haben in den letzten Jahren viel getan um die Kommunikation zu verbessern.
Interessante Aufgaben
Vom Sales Trainee, Senior Sales Manager über die Kundenbetreuung bis hin zum Produktmanagement... ich hatte immer die Möglichkeit mich weiter zu entwickeln. Danke dafür!

Das Thema Kommunikation wird eine Never-Ending-Story bleiben. Wir arbeiten stets daran, transparent zu sein und das Team up to date zu halten. Wenn du noch andere hilfreichere Ideen hast als bspw. unseren #general-Slack-Channel...du weißt, wo wir sitzen. Am Kindergarten arbeiten wir, bis dahin sind wir froh, eine Partnerschaft mit einer Kita in unserer Nähe zu haben. Wenn es jedoch weitere CA-Babies gibt, müssen wir vielleicht ernsthaft über eine CA-Kita nachdenken...mal sehen, was Moritz und Torsten dazu sagen! ;-)
