- The amazing colleagues - Weekly team lunches & breakfast - Equipment (Apple hardware, home office equipment) - Mental & physical health initiatives - Linz office is pretty cool from an architectural point of view, Vienna office is very convenient - They really tried to make the off-boarding process for laid-off employees as easy as possible and provided support (kudos to the People & Culture team!) - Meetups & parties are really fun
I actually enjoyed working there. colleagues & team work works very well. there are several high potentials in the company. the company culture, which owners and mgmt actively promote is very open and welcoming. onboarding and offboarding process is done well. strong focus on People & Culture helps. flexible work hours.
The work itself was fun and rewarding, a lot of the people are amazing, they do at times spend on their employees for things like birthday presents or parties.
Nobody wants or can take over responsibility. "Open door policy" is just a phrase, it isn't meant that you can come to talkt to someone if you have something business related. Some departments should get a "doesn't concern me award" Equality between departments, some are more worth than others, or at least not discriminated.
vision is unclear or seems to change a lot. i missed structure and clear goals during my time at smec. a lot is done ad-hoc. work load is too much and in no relation to the salary, if you dont actively push back on it. location of Linz office is not super-easy to reach by public transport, but good with a bike
- Lack of vision from leadership - Too many cooks spoil the broth: Often there were many people with different agendas involved in one project, making it hard to work in an agile & fast way. This causes the company to lose valuable time to respond to the changing customer & market needs.
Listen clearly to your employees Invite everyone who is affected in projects Have a clear way where you would like to go to an communicate it in an easy and clear way. Stop demotivating employees in 1o1's Massage chair is not motivating when everything else is demotivation
+ The mindset among the colleagues is definitely the best part about the company (most of the employees that work there are amazing, I met great people that are now friends). Most coworkers are extremely helpful, you will always find someone to support you and give you additional input if needed. It is really amazing how great the relationship among colleagues can be. Also the company allows you to stay in the office after work to have a beer/wine.
can only speak for my team but we support each other wherever and whenever we can - there are also many teamevents at smec that help with strengthening work relationships
Auch als Praktikant sieht man sich selber als Teil des Teams und das wird auch so kommuniziert, das ist, im Gegenteil zu anderen Unternehmen, sehr angenehm.
Very low overall compensation package, but middle management becomes puppets of top management to repeat that it is fair and "competitive". Some adjustments were granted recently, but still below market average because of all-in contacts, the bonuses etc. do not really make sense when you think longer term
in absolute terms okay, but in my opinion for the general workload rather on the lower level (depending on which other companies you compare it to). but there are perks like parties, etc.
- Salaries are low. Juniors are pushed into all-in contracts even if it is their first job and they have little opportunities to find out how many hours of work the job requires. + You can get bonuses.
Strongly depends on the department. A lot of people don't have the time to work on their career paths. However, it should be noted that there are also positive examples of people who have been able to start at the bottom and work their way up.
