I have always felt respected and there is a huge sense of community for many different types of people. Babbel doesnt let it end there, i can see they try to adapt to do things better
On a positive note, some people in the company are very interested in making Babbel a better employer. At Babbel, at least at the moment, you have a relaxed job and a lot of freedom.

Als ich anfing, waren meine Kollegen und die Leitung in Berlin wunderbar. Es herrschte eine ausgezeichnete Stimmung, ein unterstützendes Umfeld, und jeder ging von guten Absichten aus und achtete auf den anderen. Dann wurde eine neue Leitung eingestellt. Die Kultur änderte sich. Die guten Aspekte der Arbeit dort begannen langsam zu verblassen, als ich das Unternehmen verließ.

Management has a lot of conflicts, it is obvious they do not know what they are doing.
Shifting the strategy too often.
Poor people management skills.
People that are lacking interpersonal communication skills being prompted to managers.

I got fired 5 months 1/2 within my probation period 2 days before Christmas, based on feedback that was discriminatory and contained straight-up lies. Before getting let go I reached out the works council and DEI to get help managing the situation with my manager. They had one conversation with my manager without me in it and did not follow up on anything afterwards. You have no idea how traumatizing this whole experience was for me.

Salaries for every employee, as well as all salary grids should be automatically adjusted for inflation. Every employee irrespective of income should get a subsidized public transport ticket (as the company advertises this as benefit).

Beschweren Sie sich nicht darüber, dass Sie in Deutschland keine Talente finden können, und entlassen Sie dann Leute, die gute Leistungen erbracht haben, was von allen, die mit ihnen gearbeitet haben, bestätigt wurde. Die jüngste Entlassungsrunde betraf talentierte Mitarbeiter, die viel für das Unternehmen geleistet haben. Wenn es Ihnen wirklich darum ginge, gute Talente zu halten, hätte das Unternehmen mehr Rücksicht auf all die Menschen genommen, die so unvermittelt und ohne Erklärung entlassen wurden.

In product leadership, especially in Growth and B2B, the culture of leadership is toxic and excluding. There have been multiple complaints, but instead of reacting, C-Suite is not taking action and let the good experts leave the company.

I feel like Babbel looks good on paper but is in reality not very generous with their employees. During my time there they readjusted salaries without really saying against what metrics and did not want to release their salary grids so it really makes you wonder what kind of salary gaps exist between employees. Limiting the BVG pass coverage to people living more than 5km away from the office is also very ableist.
